About Me

Hello! I am a practicing Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Teacher working in Durham, NC. I have over twenty years experience working with children, adolescents, parents/guardians and adults.

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with a BS in Dance Performance and Choreography in 1995. Dance allowed me to let go of my thinking mind, listen to and connect with my body, explore and express my inner experience and share my journey with others.

After getting married, having two boys, and working as a gymnastics coach and Montessori assistant teacher, I returned to graduate school, received an MA in counseling in 2011, and began my work as a school counselor. Since this time, I have received extensive training in trauma-informed care and had the opportunity to connect deeply with the children, adolescents, parents/guardians and teachers with whom I have worked.

Five years ago, I had the opportunity to return to my own spiritual center and commitment to personal healing, recovery and growth. During this time, I became trained as a Registered Yoga
Teacher and Certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Teacher. Learning to slow down, get quiet, and deepen my listening has had a  great impact on my life. I am dedicated to untangling the complexities of suffering and discovering and practicing a path towards more freedom and joy.

My Approach

My passion for working with others and my ability to build relationships and partner with others in the journey of life has shaped my work. I am committed to attending to the whole person and remaining open to a wide variety of practices that may fit for a particular individual in a specific time/stage of their life. I take an eclectic, person-centered approach, and am most drawn to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Mindfulness and Existential Theory. I believe in seeing things through a strengths-based, trauma-focused, and restorative justice lens. I have expertise in anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship issues, life transitions, self-esteem and trauma recovery.
